Boom lift /scissor lift hire

I have a bunch of re-pointing that needs doing on the gable end of my house, its 2 story house with private driveway on the gable end and as such i figured hiring a boom lift or scissor lift would be much easier.

My question is can i hire a boom lift/scissor lift for personal use not contract etc or do need some kind of official training? before i can hire a lift?

I think it's best if you contact the hire company they will offer you advice, some do give you some basic training and operational guide.
But they are now trying to push the PAL card http://www.ipaf.org/en/training/pal-card/

as above really,weve just recently done the ipaf course for our cherry picker,used to be the mewp course.
some 1 like HSS will give you the info you require.
