He also said that:

In addition:

Well he certainly has a track record!

If you are asking me, then of course not but what has that to do with it?

I said I thought a perception of hate crime (apparently by the victim or an onlooker) was all that was needed for it to be (called) a hate crime.

You seemed to disagree and mentioned proof was required so I quoted the CAB - who presumably have quoted the actual wording - not made it up themselves.

It's very simple. It's the reason for punching, not the punch, that makes the crime. Hate crimes are rarely carried out in silence, the criminals are usually very clear why they are attacking somebody. They're a bit thick like that.

I would add that it (the hate part), adds to the seriousness of the crime rather than becomes the crime.

A punch is still a crime regardless. The inclusion of hate to that criminality, increases the seriousness.

What goes round ... the big question is, who will be compared to Hitler the most in 50 years, Johnson or Trump? Both have stirred up hatred as Hitler did. Hate crimes on the rise, more people criticising the poor and vulnerable in society, more racism, more sexism, it is all very depressing really. Where will it end?

On the Buffoonery scale i think Trump is more of a Mussolini type rather than a Hitler who was an altogether darker character.

Exactly - you can be prosecuted for more than one crime - if you smash somebody's door in, yell racist abuse, beat them up and steal their valuables, the judge isn't going to send you down for breaking an entry, but let you off all the other charges.
