Shock horror!

"The reason we have the vaccine success is because of capitalism, because of greed, my friends."

A place to be created in his own image!

He of course forgot the bit about 'biggest con job', indefinite austerity, crush the poor, corruption, huge rewards for his chums, remove democracy etc etc...

...not to mention stopping you leaving the UK........still, it’s all coming to an end. :)

Unfortunately your duff record however will it appears carry on playing forever...

But I digress...

An older friend of mine just got the 'call up' for the 'jab'...

Not directly from the NHS, but from a 'third party' messaging service called Accurx...

A private firm that has a tory MP (Tom Tugendhat) as an investor and who 'assisted' the capital fund raising exercise for the 'bid'...

Capitalism and greed!

Oh, have you decided to stay in the "xenophobic/nationalistic/racist country that england has become" where the grass is greener then or have you been refused residence in your chosen utopia?
You may not be aware, but UK are not granting permission to leave until about July.
So most people are stuck in in the UK, whether they like it or not.

Totally pathetic...

But we expect nothing else from the resident troll(s)

I was waiting for a post on this headline.

Capitalism and greed are why we have a world leading vaccine developer at Oxford university.
Capitalism and greed are why we have world leading drug companies operating out of the UK.
Capitalism and greed are why our government funded the development of the Astra Zeneca vaccine that is being used around the world and sold at cost.
Capitalism and greed are why the vaccine developed by Oxford/Astra Zeneca is the cheapest and easiest to store vaccine available and therefore likely to the most used vaccine in poorer countries around the world
Capitalism and greed are why we have an NHS that's been able to role out the vaccine programme faster than almost any other country.
Capitalism and greed are why Kate Bingham, the leader of the UK vaccine task force, stepped down from her very lucrative role as managing partner at SV Health Investors and agreed to work for nothing to manage the development and role out of the vaccine programme in the UK.

I think there was more than a touch of humour and irony in Boris's comment.....

Bojo quickly retracted his statement as it was another gaffe / off the cuff remark as it was a strikingly poor example of capitalism at work.

Vaccines don't make much money for Pharma companies and it's why the number of companies making vaccines has declined. It required billions from Governments to pay these companies to refocus efforts on vaccine research - public funds were used to pay for the research.

A better example of capitalism would be how new companies have popped up to deal with the changing work habits and changing demand.

Lower thinks that only the UK helped to develop the vaccines:

“The explanation we were given for why other high-income countries have a lower price is that they have invested in the [research and development], hence the discount,” he added.

That principle has also been applied to the biggest players. The EU financially supported the development of the BioNTech and Pfizer vaccine
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is much cheaper, although neither the UK nor the US can match the EU’s $2.15 deal: they are expecting to pay about $3 and $4, respectively, per dose
https://www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj...inancially supported the,the EU is paying $18.
On that basis, the EU financed the development of the AZ vaccine more than the UK.

BioNTech SE, has received money -- from the German government.
Berlin gave the German company $445 million in an agreement in September to help accelerate the vaccine by building out manufacturing and development capacity in its home market.

Basic research conducted by Graham and others at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Defense Department and federally funded academic laboratories has been the essential ingredient in the rapid development of vaccines in response to COVID-19. The government has poured an additional $10.5 billion into vaccine companies since the pandemic began to accelerate the delivery of their products.

For clarity, my comment relating to vaccine development funding was intended to refer to the AZ vaccine, not the others.

Bojo quickly retracted his statement as it...

...instinctively showed his true character.

His minders do their best to keep him under wraps

"Johnson, who has offended some allies with flippant remarks, told Conservative Party members that the Libyan city of Sirte could be turned into the next Dubai by British investors if they could clear the bodies.

“They’ve got a brilliant vision to turn Sirte, with the help of the municipality of Sirte, to turn it into the next Dubai,” Johnson said. “The only thing they’ve got to do is clear the dead bodies away and then we will be there.”

A few of posters on DIYnot adopt the same approach as our Bozza's advisers...

But as he risked inflaming tensions with the EU amid its slow jab rollout, he backtracked, adding: "Actually I regret saying it. Forget I said that."

One MP at the meeting said the remarks were a "complete joke" and Mr Johnson was talking about AstraZeneca "being philanthropic in non-profit production".

"It was a joke", is all one needs to say after saying something ridiculous, inflammatory or just plain lies. I always thought jokes were meant to be funny.
