Bosch dishwasher knocking noise and not emptying

I have a Bosch dishwasher. For the past couple of months is has occasionally (not always) been making a knocking noise when filling (airlock, maybe?) and was otherwise fine. EXCEPT now it does not drain and the water is dirty. Also, there was a burning smell last time I used it. Could it be a faulty pump and does that mean it's terminal??! I cannot find a model number ANYWHERE on the appliance. It's about 4 or 5 years old and it just says Bosch Limited Edition Auto Option on the front.

I have checked the filters and they seem clear.

Is there something I (a complete novice) can do to fix it myself? Is it worth having it repaired? Or just get a new one (not an option I was looking forward to).

The model and serial number are etched very lightly around the door edge

you really need to look at it in the right light and from the light angle

some are on the top others on the side (of the stainless steel bit)

Hello Leccy758. Thanks for your input. I did have a good look there, but could see nothing. I'll have another look with a torch tonight.

Do you have any idea whether the knocking and the failure to drain are related, or whether they are two separate problems? The dishwasher DOES fill, it just doesn't empty. Although I can't understand why it's not leaking water by now. Is there an overflow to prevent the water rising above a certain level?

Do you reckon it's fixable? Or must we resign ourselves to buying a new dishwasher? I'm quite fond of this one!

I have inspected the dishwasher all over and I can confirm there is no model number or serial number anywhere. Unless it's staring me in the face. Perhaps the details were on a sticker on the side of the door, where Leccy758 suggested it might be etched, but if it was ever there, it has long since gone.

Regardless of the model and serial number, can ANYONE suggest what might be wrong with the machine and whether it is likely to be worth fixing (by myself, preferably) or by an experienced technician.

We're getting desperate. Busy family, busy lives and dishes are mounting up before we have the time to wash them by hand.

Please help!
