Bosch WVT 126S - softner tray filling with water

My washing machine is not using the softner on a wash. Thw tray is filling up with water but staying there along with the softner. Any ideas on what may be causing this or what I could do to fix it??

take the tray out and clean the stalk the one with the hat on its blocked up ,or shove it in the dishwasher.
