When sinking a metal box into a wall that needs plastering, so onto bare brick, is it normal to sink the box flush into the brick/leave it on the surface or sink it in a cm or two? Just wondered what the standard practice was. Maybe it's just done so that the protrusion is say half an inch?

Many thanks

JD

ideally it should be sunk such that it will come up to very slightly(say a mm or two) below final plaster level i suspect the pasterer will adjust his plastering to the fittings to some extent but it may be an idea to speak to him first.

half an inch sticking out from the brick surface sounds in the right ball park though

Sink it to the same depth as the capping is on the wall. So that would be about half the depth of the metal box'ish.

Or, check with the Plasterer first. Lot of dry lining going on nowadays. Saves a bit of knocking.

Many thanks guys, I'll go for it being the same depth as the capping.

Cheers
