We purchased our 1959-built-house two years ago and just starting to think about ways in which to update the staircase. Would any users have any advice on establishing whether there are likely to be spindles boxed in behind this woodwork (based on houses of the same period)? I have tapped the outside but are there any other methods (without causing too much damage) that could help me establish if it's worth removing? Thank you for any advice.
