I want to secure two doors on an outhouse. I could potentially use Brenton bolts (pictured below) with padlocks or have timber doors which have an in-built key operated lock.

It occured to me that irrespective of how good the padlock is which is used to secure the Brenton lock, if the keep is secured to the frame with ordinary screws then all that's needed to open it is a screwdriver.

That is, unless something else is used to secure the keep other than ordinary screws?

You could drill right through the door and use coach bolts with the nuts on the inside. I'd guess that's what the square holes are for - coach bolts have a square part behind the smooth dome head.
 
Yes, they are intended to be fixed with coach bolts, and yes, that's what the square holes are for.

With penny washers under the nuts they will resist wrenching and levering
