Hello all - first time poster here..!
Recently bought a house. Replacement patio door paid for by old owner but never fitted. Due to be fitted next week.
Yesterday, the wooden step crumbled away revealing a cement layer that has also crumbled. Appears that the cement was used to fill the gap between the bottom brick course (which is solid) and the bottom of the wooder step, as with the step in place it was too narrow to fit a full brick course.
Question is - can I just slide a new brick course in after removing all the crumbling cement? With the cement and wooden step gone it appears there would be room for a full course.
Window fitters reckon this will be fine.
Also - there appears to be a damp course between the bottom layer of brick and the cement. Should this stay in place? Ie: mortar straight over the top of it?
See images for reference.
Cheers all!
