Brick Matching

Thanks oldun, did wonder that

Think I will try and get a few samples of the main two mentioned here.

Other houses with the same brick in the street have had extensions etc so you must be able to get something quite close.

Ring some local merchants/suppliers of bricks up, see if they do a match service. Then take one of your neighbours bricks to the brick supplier, if you don't have one to take, and see if you can get a match.
Have you tried these

HI Guys

Popped to EHSmith yesterday as they had all 4 of the series in stock.

The Windsor was far too red, and the Ironstone is very yellow, definetely what they used in next doors conservatory.

However the Milton Buff and the Brecken Grey look like the best matches.

I think I will go with the Milton Buff as its a little darker and seems to match best in various lights.

See what you think? Miltons are bricks 1 & 3 Breckens are bricks 2 & 4

It depends which part of the wall you look at. It can also depend on a particular batch, as the same type of brick can vary. It's a bit tricky sometimes with just one brick as a sample unless the bricks are a uniform colour.

Just knocked a brick out of the wall of my 1930 bungalow, cast with hardwick on the top/bottom. Whats the significance of this? ie, is it a well known manufacturer or local to me, I know there were local brickworks and we live in Derbys, 2 miles from Hardwick Hall.

Don't need bricks, purely out of interest.

If you read my previous post on this thread you will see that I have said that the bricks cane from London Brick Company Kepston Hardwick.
Kempston Hardwick is a villager close to Bedford and years ago LBC had, from memory 4 different brick yards in villages in the Bedford area, and each yard was called by the village name.
Hanson Brick took over LBC in 1984 and closed Kempsston in 1999. Hanson thern closed the remaing old LBC yards in 2008.
