I want to run bricks on edge (side by side, not end to end) at ground level so I can gravel one side and put plants in the other side.

I've dug the trench (20 metres in length) and got rid of the dirt. I just need someone to lay the mortar footing and then lay the bricks, butted up against each other (no mortar bed between bricks).

I've been quoted £200 to lay the 20 metre run, that's with me digging the trench and supplying the bricks, sand and cement.

Is that a bit expensive for just the labour?

Many thanks.

Why not do it yourself. You only need a length of string, a spirit level, a trowel and a mallet?

Thanks Lou but I won't be able to do it, no time - no skill.

I don't mind paying but hate having to pay too much.

Fair comment. Get yourself a further couple of quotes from handyman in your area, and ask for references for similar work done - then check out the references.
