There is a large red brick wall at the end of my garden, and half of it had ivy all down it, having overgrown from the other side.

Last year I hacked it all away and it’s amazing how much of the surface brickwork had been destroyed by it.

As the non-Ivy half of the wall had always been painted white, I wanted to match up, so I gave the wall two coats of “stabiliser” and then two coats of exterior masonry paint

It looked fine for a while, but as winter is setting in, quite a lot of the paint is peeling off.

Is there a better way to seal the brickwork and make sure the paint sticks?

The other side of the wall is still covered in ivy, so I don’t know if this is the problem?
