How big a job is it to reduce the size of a window opening?

I'm in the process of buying a house and the tiny bathroom has a huge window which I'd like to reduce to put in a shower/bath unit along that wall, so that the shower end has just tiles and you don't feel so exposed!

It depends on the out side, Is it a brick that would be hard to get a good match for or is the house rendered?

You could just get a new window with an extra transom at any height you like with a solid white panel in the bottom half, That would probably be your cheapest option.

The house is a 1930s pebbledash beauty. The exterior needs some repairs anyway so the brickwork could be covered over at the same time? I hadn't considered the extra transom option so thanks for the suggestion.
