I was just reading the post on blown render and am puzzled about the permeability of bricks. :?

How do they stop water soaking through the walls on non-rendered houses, if cracked render causes all these problems on rendered houses?

If the bricks are treated with a waterproofing chemical, why don't they just do that before rendering and avoid all the problems that people face when the render fails?

Thanks for enlightenment! :D

thats why they have a cavity, to allow the water to drip down the cavity and out through weepholes at the base if there is a cavity tray fitted. A solid wall relies on the thickness of the wall to prevent the penetration of the damp
