On my son's very old Heyter lawn mower, the pull rope frayed and broke. We found the insert has worn away where the rope / string comes out of the pull mechanism , there is bare metal. The plastic insert or grommet had worn away. Has anybody found a fix for this - a rubber grommet may be too soft. I can see on another mower that the original is hard plastic.

Thanks
Dal

The usual method is to use either a nylon or soft metal insert.
How about sticking a washer on with araldite to achieve a similar effect?
John :)

We pushed a plastic hole cover , drilled through, into the hole. The cover used in kitchen units to blank unused holes.
It,s a tight fit and holding for now while we look for something better.
