Britony 2t Boiler - Water too hot

Hi all... this my first post, so be gentle!

I recently bought my first flat and found that the water coming out of the boiler is scalding. The temperature dial was seized so I've replaced that but despite that now working it is impossible to change the temperature. If you turn the dial down even slightly the flames die down and the water then comes out cold.

I've looked through tons of other forums posts on here and other sites but most people seem to have issues with water being too cold, so at least I should be grateful I've still got hot water!

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the issue?

First things first, it's a multipoint water heater and not a boiler. There is little a diyer can do on these. A service and a new diaphragm should sort it out.

As 45 said not a lot you can do yourself on this and a proper service including a new diaphragm should sort you out, try and find an engineer in your area with experience of these as not many still around and lots will never have seen one , a simple enough appliance to work on but has a few quirks too

I've moved to a new area and don't know any local tradesmen, so this information (and the correct terminology to use) will go a long way to not being ripped off!

You could fit a thermostatic blending valve to the outlet which will guarantee no scalding.

I did find a local plumber who said the same thing, sent me a quote but then I never heard back from him when I tried to arrange a date to carry out the work! I reckon I can do that myself anyway but I'll still need someone to look at the water heater, soooo....

Why does everyone assume they are going to be ripped off ? the vast majority of plumbers are honest with a few dishonest ones like any other trade/profession.

Well maybe I'm just unlucky then... I don't assume anything, just going by my own past experiences. But I understand where you're coming from.

Out of interest, would you say £95 is a fair quote for fitting a thermostatic blending valve?

With a correctly operating multipoint water heater, and yours has a variable temperature control, you don't need a blending valve. Get the thing serviced!

Since I have never ripped off anyone I do find it disappointing to so often see people complaining about being ripped off.

Thanks to everyone not stood on top of their soapboxes for all the advice, I now know what I need to do to get my hot water issue fixed

That seems mildly abusive and not what a professional person would say.

There are always a very few who will rip people off in any field.

If you think you have really been ripped off then why not give us details and we can see if you were really unlucky.

In contrast there are some customers who try to rip us off too.
