Britony Combi 80 - Always needing reset

Hi all.

I've got a Britony Combi 80 which I've had for about five years, serviced fairly regularly.

The Mrs has recently demanded that the central heating is put back on and since we have done this, about a week ago, I have had no end of problems with the boiler needing resetting. This is when I have it set to both HW & CH.

It is at about 1 bar pressure when cold and about 2 bar pressure when hot, which I know is about right.

Over the weekend, I have had to reset it about 20 times and as it is in my loft, it's a pain in the a**e!!!

It seems to be when the hot water is called for.

Any clues gratefully received before I part with my cash.

One reason for the lock out is that a flame is not detected within 8 seconds of the start of the ignition cycle.

There are a number of things that can cause this. So, have you tried following the faultfinding charts in the Maintenance and Service Guide for the boiler?

To do this, you may need to cycle the demands for heat and hot water, until the fault occurs while you are observing the boiler (watching the LED's and listening for the start of the pump and ignition sequence).

hi , i have a near identical problem with my brittany 80 boiler, when hot water is called for the system works for about 10 seconds and then clicks out , the red warning light does not illuminate although if the reset is pressed the system works again for about the same time period , the same happens when the central heating is turned on , this problem happened abbout 6 months earlier but at that time removing and cleaning the thermistors cured it , this time i have replaced both thermistors but still it wont work , if the heating is left on the boiler can be heard firing up for short periods and then clicking off , unfortunately i have no maintenance and service guide for this system , any advise or the possibility of somebody emailing me a maintenance guide would be much appreciated

Did anyone ever solve this problem as i'm having the same problem Fine during the summer when just set to HW but when winter arrives and there is a demand for the heating, it needs resetting about 3 times a day.... You can guarantee that when we wake up in the morning and switch a tap on, it is freezing cold, menaing i have to run downstairs to reset the boiler to get my hot water... Had the air outlet renewed and tweaked, had new thermistors in it but still no joy!!!

I managed to solve my problem: -

I RIPPED THE BLOODY THING OUT!!!

5 years of frustration replaced with a spanking new Worcester Junior Combi 28i. Bought for just over £500.00 inc VAT and the bits (clock, flue, etc) and £100.00 to fit.

My life is now complete but I do feel for anyone with a Britony Combi.

soud good info there, I have the same "awful" boiler, I pretty much just heat water in pans in the kitchen for washing up and have an electric shower

now its getting colder i want to be warm as I have a cold

theres a pipe with slotted screw that lets water in it and the pressure guage goes up, as soon as I do that water pees out of a pipe through the wall some kind of outlet/overflow in to nexts doors alleyway outside, its fired up at this point - I close the screw , you here the water flow stop and the pressure drops back to zero on the guage - and consequently the boiler goes out -

any ideas anyone please as I need to keep warm now - the manual does make much sense

prv your either over pressurising the boiler or it's kaput and needs replacing

I close the screw , you here the water flow stop and the pressure drops back to zero on the guage - and consequently the boiler goes out -

the boiler is meant to stop on low pressure

thans kev, I'll try that tonight only to 1 bar then close it off - if pressure stops on the guage and descends again before I even turn it on again, would that suggest a vavle or open or needs shutting off perhaps? as I suspect it will just leak outside again - thanks again in advance

if it does the pressure relief valve needs replacing (not expensive)

once that's done then you need to find out why

I topped it up with the screw thing again on the pipe to 1 bar, the second I close off the screw, pressure drops on the guage - must be something silly I hope

first replace the prv

while you have no system pressure anyway check the precharge in the expansion vessel second post down
