My next door neighbour parked her car on her drive the other day forgetting to put the hand brake on. The drive is slightly downhill and it rolled out, over the road and into the garden wall opposite. The wall has nice brick pillars with wooden fence panels between them. One of the posts as cracked all around a mortar joint at the bottom and turned round slightly but is hardly marked otherwise.

Ignoring the actual weight, could you lift the post, clean and re mortar the joint and put it back or do you need to start afresh? Just curious.

Has anyone else done anything similar?

Yes, done this many times !

If you can unibond both side (if not then wet both side)and make up say 4 wooden wedges and put it opposite of each other on the edge of the mortar joint allowing 15mm gap.

Make a slightly stiffer mortar mix then place the wall on top of the wedges to take the weight pressure. Give it time when you feel the cement can take the weight without pushing the mortar out of the joint then take out the wedges and tap it down to 10mm joint. Don't forget to use a spirit level !

The biggest one I've done was a 2' square wall pillar which has to be moved half way along the wall for a wider running. We use a mini crane trolley type to make life easier.
