My son's boiler system is not working best. I have drained the water, and it was very brown. I have seen black sludgy water but never brown!

Can anyone tell me why this is?

TIA

Its usually much of the same thing - rust!
The rust is called magnetite and due to the lack of oxygen in the system the rust remains black. Fresh water allows oxygen in, so the rust can remain brown for a while.....hence its not a good idea to change the heating water just for the hell of it. Always add a quality inhibitor too.
