The only way I've found to view a BS document is if it's about to be revised. Then you can get to see the revision proposals.

For example, BS3998 is about to be revised so you can download the proposed standard here: http://www.trees.org.uk/downloads/bs5837draft.pdf

Of course, "Trees in relation to Construction" is not quite what you were looking for. Well, I can't help that. You'll just have to wait until BS7671 is about to be revised.

Find public and university libraries that hold complete sets of British Standards. LINK
Having said that I am amazed so few places mentioned... must be more surely?
This useful? :?:

Has it not occured to you that British Standard documents are copyrighted?

If they weren't we would all have a copy of BS7671 on file instead of paying £50 for a copy!

You have NO CHANCE of getting a freebie!

Yes.
Some libraries have the BS ...
So a freeby read is on the cards.
What happened to the hand scanner? Like this LINK I am sure it would be outlawed - if spotted !

BS5839-1 2002 to a non-member £190-00 to a member £95-00
How much to become a BSI member or subscriber? Have to e-mail for that, I think.
There are several associated Standards.

The scanner was picked at random from a search, I am sure there must be cheaper models... I guess it depends upon having other uses and how well the thing actually scans a page.
From the prices quoted on the BSI site one would not need to scan the relevant parts of many standards to more than make the scanner worthwhile. ... This is DIY after all.
:D

i remember before if i went to our local reference library they would let you look at the standard and take photocopies of up to 10% of the total number of pages. this was allowed, at the time, dont know how it affects copyright law though, i dont want to go to jail. i just wanted to clarify something i.e. L1 system do you have to put detectors in toilets shower rooms and bathrooms and if so what type of detectors would be suitable???

All county libraries can supply any BS document, usually at about 7 days notice to order in, very few stock the lot!.
All you have to do is join the librarby. However, while doning so you usually have to sign to say you will not breach coyrights - i.e. not copy more than 10% of any one chapter, and a host of other funnies. However, as usually you only want 3 pages, its OK.

Have you tried any of the file sharing services? I have an e-copy but it is copyrighted so not allowed to distribute.

Got a contact number?

bjc or fireman22 would it be possible to get that file you was talkin bout too mate please, dont wanna go down the £200 road. ***********
