BT external bell (probably 80db)

Hi

Strange request, I have an external bell that I want to wire up so that it will ring on a button.

I've seen posts on other sites that say its 12v, so will it work if it's wired to a 12v battery via a door bell switch?

If it is a modern electronic one it might but the old 'mechanical' ones use A/C to power them, and no they cannot be supplied via a step down transformer because the ring frequency is not the same as the standard mains frequency.

It might be possible to adjust them but not a definite yes you can.

Funny you should say that, I have actually used a sledge hammer to crack a nut and I must say it's a very effective approach. The best method I found was to stand the nut on an anvil and light tap it with the sledge.

50 Hz might work but won't give a good ring.

You really need a Converter Ringing which will give you a 17-25 Hz output

You'd probably be better to use a Masterbell which you can run off an ordinary bell transformer (or if the press switch and wiring is suitable, a mains powered version)
