Ive had a builder do some work but the job has been delayed through some of my own faul, he's now asking for full payment and will return one Im ready for him. Is this reasonable? Its about £850 outstanding.

It would be obvious not to pay for everything unless/until all the work is done.

Ideally he should be paid for what he has done to date, and then if there are some other expenses then perhaps an advance of some token amount (or a retainer), but certainly not the whole lot if the work is incomplete

I agree with woody, if he only has a day left then holding back £850 is a bit excessive and maybe just holding back £250 would be fair, but if he has over a weeks work left then £850 would be fine to hold back, its all relative !
