Does anyone else get real narked off with this term. Does it actually exist as it definitely is not a specific trade so where did it derive from?

I always thought a builder would be more inclined to be a chippy and also does bricklaying. Maybe also the English equivilant of a 'contactor' in America. I wouldnt say a builder is a jack of all trades either, just hate the term being used frivolously and any Tom, Dick and Harry uses the term these days.

What you guys think? Do any of you call yourselves a 'Builder'?

I'm a builder. I build extensions.

The only part i don't do is the plumbing and electrics.

I guess 'builder' is a suitable description for me.

A lot of builders seem to tackle the plastering as well, would you do that as well? To me it seems the builder would just sub-contract a lot of the work and take more of a project manager sort of role.

I class myself as a general builder as i do most trades.
I could also class myself as a building contractor as i contract certain trades on certain jobs.

im a carpenter, but can do other things within the general scope of building.
