Building Fence Panels in Situ

Hello Everyone ,

I am currently replacing some fence panels in my garden . I have four panels which will be difficult to drop into position due to overhanging trees ect which I dont want to cut back . Therefore I am planning to buy the materials and build the panels in Situ .

I just need some help in deciding how to fix the individual slats in place .

I`m not bothered how long it takes - just on finding the best method . I wonder if trying to nail them might be tricky given the flimsy nature of the materials . Can I screw them ? If so what screws do you recommend ? Or should I buy , or hire a nail gun (The choice and price range of these seems unlimited - so which one
should I go for )

Any tips and advice would be much appreciated

What sort of panels? Woven, feather-edge boards, ...... ?

Yes the concrete posts are in place . Just swapping the old waney lap panels for close face panels . They come as tapered boards attached to 3 , 70 x 35 rails

Can you de-construct ready made ones down to the level you need and then rebuild the top in-situ.

Buy ready-made panels, but keep in mind when selecting - that you intend to partially deconstruct them. If you remove the bottom horizontal timbers, leaving the upper ones in place, then you should be able to spring the panels into place between the posts, by keeping the upper horizontal, a foot or so above the posts. Then just refit the lower horizontal timers.

Collecting, buying the bits, will likely cost you more, than just buying ready-made, then disassembling, to reassemble in situ.

My grandson makes these for a living he has his own personalised nail gun!

Thanks for replies , folks . It's given me a few ideas . One option I'm thinking of is that because it doesn't matter what the panels look like from the back , I could shorten the width to get them between the posts and then add extra supports on the back , once in place.
Any thoughts?
