building in stone

I have an old cottage and I want to put a porch on the front. Building regs don't apply because I'm leaving the original front door in place. The cottage is a purple sandstone and I want to find the same for the porch. I asked at a quarry and was told I have to build a block support wall to then lay the stone up against. This will mean the inside of the porch will be block (I haven't got the room to do stone on both sides of the block work) I want the porch to be purely constructed of stone. Surely this is possible without the use of block. The cottage itself is best described as constructed of uncoursed dressed stone, can I just build the porch in the same method?

You can build the walls from stone, but they will need to be thicker than one using a backing wall.
