I want to remove a load bearing wall between living room and kitchen. I know it will need a steel going in and friend of mine can do the calls.

Is a building notice enough for this change or do I need a full plan?

The local authority website isn't clear which applies.

Thanks

D

If I can build an extension on a notice, you can remove a wall, BUT phone your local office just to be on the safe side.

I take it your friend can do the 'calcs'?

Whoops.....calcs not calls....stooped iPad!!

Thanks

I'll add weight to my statement by letting you know that approval for my extension came with no plans or any dimensions other than the floor area, so, given that I was given the go-ahead without these specifics, I could have been building a climbing from of UB's that required lots of calcs...

That is just the sort of job that Building Notice was intended for.
If the calcs are done competently, they will have simple sketches to give the council's checking engineer enough details of the structure to enable him to check the figures.
