Where a room that was previously not a kitchen is made into one - an extractor fan is required by Building Regs. (no matter how many windows there are).
My question is - does that fan have to be wired up to the light switch - as in a bathroom - or can it just have its own on and off switch (easier wiring)? Thanks for any replies.

you can wirer it to an on/off swicth as long as you have fan in room it does not matter .but make sure you put right size in

In Scotland there is a requirement for 60 litres / sec airflow (with some exceptions)

There is no need for it to come on with the light. I generally put them on a seperate switch.
