At what point during an extention does a room become a special location IE Ensuit, because building regs don't actually say. what im asking is, IF I say a room is going to be a bathroom, BUT change my mind, is it a room, or a special location, and what makes it so???

If it has a fixed bath or shower in it.

(or a sauna, swimming pool, hot tub etc)

Are you thinking of putting sockets in a room, and then adding a bath?

or the other way round?

Bear in mind the definition of a 'special location' is different in the Building regulations and Wiring regulations.

Why does it matter?

If your thinking is that if there is no electrical work which is notifiable in its own right then your LABC will not care about it when it's part of a notifiable extension, think again.
