Hello

Im all up to speed with the regs regarding special locations containing baths and showers with distances and IP ratings etc but i just wanted to ask this..........

I am presently working on a holiday home that has a sink in each bedroom, now above each sink is a 13amp switched fused spur to turn on the mini water heater for the hot water in each room, from what i gather there are no regs regarding fused spurs etc above (or just to the left) of sinks in bedrooms is there?

Thanks

They must be suitable for the environment. Can they be splashed, readily operated by wet hands (if switched) etc etc.

ok so that gives me the scope of common sense and not specific regs like locations containing baths or showers.

So a very small sink used to wash face and hands would be ok with a 13Amp fuse spur just to the left of it. afterall much bigger sinks in kithens can have them only 30cm away

sorry i only read half your reply, thats where i kind if disagree with one of the regs, in a kitchen a socket can be only 30cm away meaning you can use it with wet hands very easily so if thats ok this must be ok

What would be the purpose of the switch though, is it being used to operate the water heater? Or does the water heater have its own buttons on for that?
30cm comes from the electricians guide to the building regs, it is not a regulation.

the water heater would be on all the time so when the hot tap is turned on it comes through hot. it wont be used as an on off switch as such. more like switched on left on

so how come its in there regarding 30cm away? is that not right then?

Is it going to be splashed if mounted 30cm away along the horizontal?

its right next to the sink, what the regs on minimum for vertical i may just place it higher up the wall

The regs just call for it to be suitable for its environment (the 16th did, not 100% sure on the wording of the 17th).
A normal fcu can be installed where it isn't likely to be splashed or if this is a problem then you may consider using a splashproof unit.

If you have the choice, place it OOR and label its function.
