hi...............i'm wanting to widen the hole in my fireplace to accomodate a new fireplace. can anyone give me advice on lintels / acro props etc.
cheers,
mickcoulson.

the hole willl be roughly the same highth as the existing hole and roughly 8" wider. the load will be no greater than the existing one

lack of info dont help but as long as you leave 9" of brickwork each side and put the correct lintel in then id think you'd be fine.if theres going to be a basket in the fire then you may have to put in or reposition a throat lintel(if it currently has one).

i'm just in the planning stage at the moment. old fireplace still in so no photos or measurements. just want to get some basic idea as to what i will need to do. ( will i need planning permission ? )

will i need planning permission ? )
No but what you do must comply with Building Regs. Also be aware that installing flue or a fuel burning appliance is notifyable building work unless carried out by a registered installer.
