Im fitting a grab rail to wall in bathroom.Wall is I think whats known as WNF Think thats( Wimpey no fine.)Its like big chunks of aggregate. Was thinking of chiseling out and screwing a bit of thick ply to the wall so that the grab rail screws could be more accurately attached.
Drilling into that stuff sends the drill all over the place.
does that sound ok or is there a better way.

will this not cause damage to the opposite side of the wall?

i suppose if damage to the other side were not a problem then i guess you always have the option of a metal plate and bolts right through the wall if plugging and screwing is not successful.
