Hi Guys,
I have recently noticed that on two of my radiator valves upstairs there seems to have been what can only be described as a minor explosion! around the valve joint. Because i have thick black gunk all up my wall which looks as though it has been forced out under pressure. I have a gravity fed system and dont have TRV's. And my pump has just started making a hell of a racket when it kicks in. Is it time for a new pump and a system clean? Other than the problems described everything else is fine.

Black gunk = time for a system flush. Pump could well have died because of it.

The pump can moan on for quite some time, but its time to bite on the bullet and replace it.....black water means gunge (magnetite) in the system but I've never had water actually squirt out of the valves...a gentle drip, maybe but thats all....
Consider rad valve and pump replacement and a system flush.
John :)
