Buying a car - a road tax question.

Waiting to the end of the month will leave the seller a month out of pocket.

I could ask seller to drive me home, drive them back and then part our ways but after all that faffing around I'd have spent a tenner on fuel (more money in the treasury).

The conclusion here is that the only winner is the government.

I suspect that we'll see a greater incidence of people driving without valid road tax. With fewer police on hand (which is why they don't bother with burglaries any more!) the chances of being caught must be reasonably low. To be honest, there is absolutely no benefit to the motorist of paying road tax.
The other outcome could be an increase in the number of drivers not bothering with insurance. Of course, unlike road tax, there is a distinct disadvantage in not being insured.

It seems that these days, not only the Brussels government, but also the Westminster one are happily bringing in more and more rules that are to the detriment of the British people in general.

I suspect that's what the majority of people would do, resulting in more 'un-taxed' cars on the road than before and therefore defeating the object of the government. Unless their objective is purely financial of course. Surely not.
