Hi guys. My Baumatic built in microwave has performed flawlessly for 8 years. But since a couple of days ago there is now a god awful buzzing when the door is closed. And when the door is left open, something creepy happens after about 5 minutes, the turntable starts turning very slowly by itself. However, it all still works as normal and heats food perfectly. But I don't know if continuing to use it is dangerous or not. So I'm switching off at the mains after each use.

Is it likely to be the magnetron? One of those costs £80. I would happily buy one and replace it myself, but due to high voltage components, I'm not confident to try and repair, especially as I know nothing about electronics. I'll just buy another oven. Pity, because I like this machine. But am interested what you would diagnose the problem to be. Thanks.

edit: How strange. Several hours later and it's righted itself, there's no more buzzing or turntable rotating by itself.

A Magnetron should not cause it to run or do weird things, but after 8 years the chances are its due for a renewal, microwaves are not the best of things to keep for many years if used regular.
