Well, it would were the VAT rate on books not 0%.

Indeed, but one has to be careful, and I thought of this, so I went through the motions of ordering, up to the 'please pay' stage, to make sure it didn't add on VAT - which it didn't.

The problem is that, whilst books in general have a VAT rate of 0%, the rules are complex, and certain types of books (e.g. 'collections of architectural plans') are subject to Standard Rate VAT, and I wondered if that might possibly apply to 'regulations' like BS7671. Certainly if one goes to the BSI website, it appears to imply that some British Standards (clearly not BS7671) available for sale do attract Standard Rate VAT.

I suspect those who are IET members (I wonder how many electricians are?) already know that - it's those of us who aren't members who have an interest in the deals around, even if this TLC one came to late to save me any money!

I have purchased a year digital subscription for the book.

I get The big book, On site guide and GN3 for £60 plus vat.

Have to say though, it's pretty buggy, and browsing through it is taking some getting use to.
So not that convinced with the digital version yet, hope it improves soon.

Is that £60 plus VAT (i.e. £72) per year? If so, given that these publications usually get revised every 2-3 years, that will probably amount to £144 - £216 over the life of the paper versions.

If the digital realisations were good, then it might be worth paying for that - but from what you go on to say, it sounds as if they probably need to do some refining before I would be even tempted! Mind you, even if it did get 'good', I have to say that I am very much a 'flicking through the (paper) pages' man!
