just want to be 100% sure before I switch it on! Machine stopped halfway through cycle. No funny smells, all wires and pipes present and correct. Machine is only about 18months old. suspecting the door lock I want to bypass to check. I have 3 grey wires coming into the connecter, so if I connect the2 outside wires will I bypass the door or die in an explosion?

Impossible to tell without a wiring diagram, but one thing is for sure....if you cause a dead short you might just end up frying your pcb instead. Why do you suspect the door-switch in the first place? Does the machine show an error code? "Electrolux aarthur martin" doesn't tell anyone very much, you need to post the model and PNC number on the door sticker.

PNC 913 213 531 Electrolux Arthur Martin AWT 12224 W
I suspected the door lock because the every thing is 'in order', nothing burnt out etc. I just want to bypass the lock to check if the problem is there, but of course I won't do it if I'm not 100% sure

yes it was! and I'm still here wondering what the problem is.
Lid lock OK
pump Ok
all wires in place and looking good
water in working
no blocked pipes anywhere
no leaks
all buttons and nobs in working order
I switch on, can choose program but when I press the start button there is nothing at all. Almost like the button is not working but it appears to be in good order. Is there a fuse in this thing? If so I can't find it.
Any ideas?

Does the door lock. Have you checked the motor brushes this can cause no fill no drum action.

brushes are fine. I still suspect the lid lock though. how much does a new one cost for a top loader? where is the best place to order on the internet?

Never seen that model have you tried google or eBay I dont think it's a very popular model. Most locks cost about a tenner but yours is a top loader , have you tried manufacture website.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding a good site that has parts for this machine in the UK....think I'll concentrate my search on French sites (bought it in France)

I've been reading that it's possible to 'reset' the pcb Is that possible and if so does anyone now the trick?

Before spending 25 euro it might be an idea to run diagnostics. With the machine turned off at the program selector press the start/pause button & the one immediately to its left. Hold them in & turn the program selector 1 position to the right. Keep holding the buttons down until all the LED's flash. Then release the buttons & turn the program selector clockwise to position 10. An alarm (flashing red & green on the start LED) should appear. Note the sequence & post it here.

Unfortunately E51 points to a shorted motor triac on the pcb, or a shorted motor cable/connector. Triacs can blow on their own but it is often caused by a short-circuit on the actual component being controlled. I would examine the pcb carefully, check the hard wiring/connector plug, & verify the motor is in order before replacing the pcb (for safety's sake I always change the door switch when fitting a new pcb regardless). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(
I know this is of little value now but to answer your earlier question about bypassing the door switch; The door switch should be marked 3 - 4 - 5 where the plug enters it. Removing the plug & linking out the two terminals which go to 4 and 5 should bypass the interlock.

Thanks a lot for your time and advice, youve been really helpful and saved me time and money. If the cost is to high I'll treat my wife to a new machine and be in the good books for a while. One more thing; do you know of a good site where I can get good impartial advice on buying new washing machines or in your opinion what is a quality machine in the region of £300 to £400?
Merci!!
