Cabin wood rot

Ok, not quite what I had picture. The construction methods look good. I would be surprised if the weeds by themselves would cause damp, but is there earth heaped up against it that the weeds are growing in, for example?
No earth heaped up, we had weed membrane put down and gravel when it was built. I think I'm going to give the gravel a blast of weed killer before topping it up with more gravel once everything has been painted and repaired etc.

Our builder came over to look at the cabin, be questioned why the cabin company had finished the cabin in a water based finish instead of oil

Hes suggested repainting all with oil as it lasts longer with less upkeep required

Is there any reason why not to use oil? Builder also said we should be able to recoat with zinsser and then paint oil over the top, without having to sand back etc. But that sounds wrong to me because I thought the oil was supposed to penetrate into the wood?

In that first pic you've posted at 08:54, is the white the filler you've applied, or is it rot?

It looks to me like the shed wasn't treated/painted very well.

Took off the wood boarding off the eaves as it was a bit rotten and repaired it, but there was some kind of adhesive sealant - it looked like a thick glue strip with perhaps some foam attached to the lip of the wood boarding and provided a seal against the felt roof tiles... it had rotted away a bit so we stripped it off and painted the inside of the boards which hadn't been done before

Question is - what do I need to buy now to stick back on the side boards to prevent water getting in where it meets the felt on the roof?

Been searching a few things, but can't seem to find it - I guess it kinda looks like a heavy duty outdoor weatherstrip

Thanks in advance!
