Cabinet dimensions needed when fitting a new kitchen sink / drainer

I want to fit a new kitchen sink / drainer. My cabinet internal width is 560mm; the depth is approx. 510mm. The kitchen was custom fitted back in the 1980s. It seems that most new units quote a minimum of 600mm width. Perhaps that is because 600mm seems to be an up-to-date industry. Can anyone help / advise please?
