cabinet - seamless joint between front face and side panel?

hello - i'm building an alcove cupboard. a bit like this...

... what is the best way of obtaining a seamless joint between the face frame and the side panel that protrudes from the chimney breast.

if i'm using 18mm mdf, would a chamfered joint filled with caulk be the option?

Scribe the return fillet to the wall then just a small bead of caulk.

When I make cabinets like this I have the main carcase fit within the alcove and fit a second board to teh side that can easily be scribed.
