I plan to install 3 double sockets along the back wall of my lounge: Which of these two cable routing methods can I use?

Option 1

Option 2

Either is acceptable - you can run cable either vertically or horizontally from socket to socket without protection.

Many people seem to prefer the first option, but it does use more cable.

Although you don't need to provide any protection, generally plastic oval conduit is a good idea - alternatively plastic capping will protect the cable from the maniac plasterer!

That is assuming you do not have dry wall of course....

Hope that helps

Hello Dude !

Option 1 is ok,

Option 2,
The cables between the sockets need to be run horizontally, so that the cable is within the 'zone' between the top and bottom of the socket.

My walls are brick with plaster.

With Option 2, I was trying to avoid using the side entry holes to the back boxes. My plan was to use the top holes in the boxes , bend the cable through 90 degrees then onto the next box. Should I look at using the side holes?

pcboffinuk: In addition to being the spark, I will also be the manic plasterer!!

oops - Eddiecurrent is correct about option 2 - in my defence I saw it as a representation and not an exact layout

Q/Should I look at using the side holes ???

A/Yes. ( remember to use grommets too !)

Are we talking 'manic' or 'maniac' here! ? Or a manic maniac even !.

Thanks guys.
Will chase the wall out with horizontal and vertical runs.
Hope the LABC guy likes what he sees when he comes to visit.

Why are you involving LABC?, the sockets themselves do not require a building notice

I am installing a new ring circuit for downstairs sockets. Currently I have one ring upstairs with both!! downstairs sockets spurred off it. The kitchen has its own radial.

For living rooms I prefer Option 1

Kitchens I will use option 2 to give more spacew on wall for fitting wall cupboards.
