Hi all again, i was reading what ring mains was wired in 2.5mm and lights wired in 1.5mm, i know that the cable size shouldnt be smaller but can u put a lot bigger cable in are is that just as bad as smaller? Its not for any work being done just a qustion
Actually you can wire lights in 1.00mm. The sizes are minimum requirments and can be increased but at a cost, who would want to waste money on something you don't need?
No, they are done with cable with a current carrying capacity of at least 20A and which will not, under the intended conditions of use, to be overloaded at any point for long periods.
switches at least will be able to take bigger as the are designed to take at least 2 x 1.5mm² cables ( for strappers and link lives etc ), but most ceiling roses are a little on the small side for getting 2 cables in..
