Cable Tracing

Is there an off the shelf cable tracing kit ?

By this I mean the type where a tone generator is connected to the cable and a receiver tuned to that tone is used to track the route of the cable.

It is not the telephone type where the tone is put on the pair and the receiver is connected to pairs to find the tone. It is to trace cables several inches deep in the fabric of a listed building.

Alpha Electronics do a unit called Amprobe AT2004 for locating live and un energised cables but it's not cheap.

Thanks for that info. Found a manual for it and it may do the job and can be hired.
