I posted this in the roofing forum but someone suggested that some of you guys here might have some advice too.

I'm going to have a real flame gas fire installed and have had the chimney swept in preparation but I need to stop those pesky birds from dropping stuff down the chimney and even falling down it themselves! I've been told by one roofer that I need a particular type of cowl because of the gas fire and by another that a cage will do. He said he didn't trust cowls in wind. Has anyone got any advice? Is a cage sufficient?

Thanks.

GC1 terminal will suffice if using existing chimney pot just slot on a 5" terracotta from a builders merchant if chimney is old i would recommend lining it with an aluminium GC1 & clamping plate sealed top & bottom
