I'm going to have a real flame gas fire installed and have had the chimney swept in preparation but I need to stop those pesky birds from dropping stuff down the chimney and even falling down it themselves! I've been told by one roofer that I need a particular type of cowl and by another that a cage will do. He said he didn't trust cowls in wind. Has anyone got any advice? Is a cage sufficient?

Cheers.

You need a gas terminal. check with the fire mfrs or their literature for specifics.
sweep the flue, good, but also if the property is old have a smoke test on the flue.
dont allow anyone on your roof unless they use a roof ladder.

Ask the guys on plumbing forum.loads of experienced CORGI`s there ;)
