I have a one gang switch and want to add some wall lights to the room can I just connect into the back of the of the switch? Is there a diagram I can follow?

It will depend on the way in which your lighting circuit is wired. You will require a neutral at the light switch.

Unfortunately the relevant neutral is usually only present at the ceiling rose - although you might be lucky and have loop in wiring at the switch.

Have a look at this for lighting circuit diagrams.

You need to pick up from the ceiling lights. Logic being that the wall lights will work on the same switch as the ceiling light so are a simple extension of the main light wiring.

Check the wiring at the ceiling light, it's likely to be either a loop in / out ceiling rose or a block of terminal blocks. If so then you run either 1 x wire to 1 x w/light and then another from there to the next wall light OR run 2 x wires from the ceiling light postion, 1 to each wall light.
