I have a pre-wired 12v MR11 halogen lighting set that I want to convert to LED bulbs so need to change to an LED transformer. Am I able to change the transformer myself or do I have to get it signed off by an electrician as it will no longer be a kit? I was looking at a transformer that has pre-wired leads on it but will need to be connected to the existing lights and supply cable via a junction box or connector. Can this be done by myself as its only really the same as replacing a faulty transformer or does it fall foul of part-p regs?

All the info out there seems very grey in this area! Any advice greatfully received.

Yes you can swap the transformer over for a driver yourself.

Thanks SaladFingers.

Does it have to be a pre-wired driver or can I use any LED transformer of the correct rating and just cut the cables from the old transformer and wire those directly into the new one to avoid needing junction boxes? Or would that not be allowed as a DIY job even though it means less connections?

The best way to do anything, is with as little terminations as you can.
