Can I fit this wireless thermostat instead of the dial type?

hi, it’s a fairly old boiler , at the moment the thermostat only has 2 wires ( which I assume are mains?) The boiler is ideal Mexico.

I’ve had a centaur timer thermostat that’s been fine for ages but started just clicking on and off avery 5 minutes.

Having ordered this all singing dancing thing I’m not sure if I’ll be able to use it as I read the advert properly it says works with no potential.

Any ideas please?

If you have a 2 wire thermostat, then it’ll be live and switched live, so no neutral, which is what your new one requires. Either rewire or swap for a battery operated thermostat or another 2 wire one. I think it’ll mean potential free, which means the switching can be mains or extra low at 24v.

Thanks, So if I get mains to it I can use the existing wires to switch it
Yes - what you need to get to it is not really "mains" - you already have an always on live wire that's from the "mains" and a switched wire that feeds the live supply to the boiler whan the thermostat is calling for heat.
What you need in addition is a neutral wire from the same supply that supplies the always on live wire.
This is usually supplied via 3-core plus earth cable, you will only have the standard 2-core plus earth cable at present.
As another poster has said, you could get round this by getting a fully battery powered thermostat.
It's confusing, though, that the blurb about the thermostat you've got says it's "battery powered" but then the wiring diagram you show indicates that it needs both live and neutral connections.

Thanks so much for your help. It’s a wired base and wireless battery powered thermostat.
The terminals don’t even tighten up properly to hold the wire, I’m going to have to send it back and just get an old fashioned dial thermostat I think.
Thanks again.
