We were gifted a Homcom self-assembly shoe cabinet by a friend and, right at the end of the assembly process - literally when trying to install the final screw - I discovered that the threaded metal insert in the plastic fixing below has stripped and so the screw will not tighten (note that the plastic is munged up because you have to hammer the fixing into its pre-drilled blind hole and so I had to lever it out with a screwdriver).
The assembly manual does have a UK contact phone number and email, but the number connects to an overseas call centre and they keep insisting that they need an order number before they can help us and we don't have one because the cabinet was bought from a retailer, not direct from Homcom. We're going to persevere with them for at least a while longer, but does anyone know if that's a generic fixing we can source from elsewhere?
Worst-case, I'm thinking about drilling out the insert and trying to get a nut in there somehow, but I'd hope that was a last resort as it would be a major PITA.
