Hello all,

I need to dig a run for some 4" underground drain pipe. It's not a massive project, just draining a small paved area and the shed roof.

Its going from where I stood to take the below photo, out under the gate in the picture and to a perfect spot in my front garden. After the gate I'll switch from solid pipe to perforated.

Can I lay the solid underground pipe adjacent to that pad foundation that you can see to the right of the photo?

The last thing I want to do is destabilise that. I don't know how deep the pad it, but it's a garage building that we park cars in, with no signs of cracking anywhere, so pretty strong as it stands.

My pipe will only be 6"-10" deep.

I recall reading somewhere that a 45 degree angle from the foundation top covers the area of pressure. So, if I lay the pipe say 18" out from the foundation side, that'd be comfortably OK?

Grateful for your help

:)

The 45 degrees is from the underside of the concrete slab, not the top. Provided you're at least as far away from it horizontally as the depth below the base of the slab then there's nothing to worry about.

So it's very unlikely you'll disturb anything. It's just a rule of thumb, the world won't explode if you remove a pebble within this line.
