I am using a sledgehammer and wedge to split big logs and the metal-on-metal sound is really aggravating - not just loud but so sharp it hurts my brain even with ear protection. Like nails on a chalkboard to me, I've always hated the sound.
I wondered if I could tape the wedge or the hammer to muffle the sound - if it would help and if it would last more than a couple of whacks? Maybe it's a stupid idea, if not any tips are welcome.
